For the sake of claiming his colleague's owed wages, Vance Lane stands up for himself after being humiliated and beats up Yale Baker, the son of the chairman of Burke Group in Milltown. In retaliation, Yale sends Vance behind bars, resulting in his imprisonment for five years despite his innocence. Upon his release, Vance discovers that his wife and daughter have fled Milltown to avoid further trouble with Yale.
